A mother who belittles her daughter

Tells her she's not good enough

Her words like acid rain

Drowning out all other love

She tears her down and builds herself up

To make her feel she's less than

The daughter's heart slowly breaks

As her mother continues to press

The daughter's worth is erased

As her mother's words take flight

But the daughter still loves her mother

No matter how hard she tries to fight

So the daughter carries on

Living by her mother's rules

Hoping one day she'll see

That she's not just some mere fool

Lilting words of wisdom or so it seems

She should be praised, but instead she demeans

She's her daughter, the apple of her eye

But the lack of love just makes her cry

Her heart is broken, her spirit is sore

She's been belittled since day one and more

She's confused and scared, not sure what to do

She wants to please, but doesn't know how

Her mother's words, so hard and mean

May be misguided, a false self-esteem

She may not understand, what she's done wrong

But in her heart, the damage is strong

The mother may not see the hurt she causes

But her daughter knows it's the end of her pauses

She may put on a strong face, but inside she's dying

For the love that she's not receiving

The love of a daughter and the love of a mother

Should be together, like a sister and brother

But love and respect are not mutual here

This daughter's heart is filled with fear

A young girl, full of life

Her mother, full of strife

She belittles her daughter

With every word and sight

The daughter is full of dreams

But her mother's voice so keen

Tells her she isn't good enough

To achieve her every scheme

The daughter is full of ambition

But her mother's judgmental diction

Makes her feel she can't do anything right

And she's filled with so much friction

The daughter's heart is shattered

Her mother's words so scattered

She's filled with so much hurt and strife

That it's hard to be matter-of-facted

But the daughter will keep on pushing

She'll keep on believing

That she can do anything she wants to

And she'll keep on achieving.
