For the first problem:
Vertex form equation: y = (x - 1)² + 4
Characteristic points: Vertex (1, 4) and the Y-intercept Y(0, 5)

For the second problem: 
Vertex form equation: y = -(x - 2)² - 3
Characteristic points: Vertex P(2, -3) and the Y-intercept Y(0, -7)
