kkaitlynn:

Paula and Mario are part of a chili cook-off. Each person needs to serve 14 children and 28 adults. Paula has already spent $32.40 on all the ingredients but the beef. Mario has already spent $36.80 on all the ingredients but the beef. Paula is now buying beef for $2.00 per pound. Mario is now buying beef for $1.25 per pound. How many pounds of beef, p, will Paula and Mario need to buy until they have spent the same total amount of money? Which equation below correctly represents the situation above? A. 32.4 + 36.8 + 42 = 2p + 1.25p B. 32.4 + 2p = 36.8 + 1.25p C. 32.4 + 36.8 + 2 + 1.25 + 42 = p D. 2p = 1.25p

Luigi0210:

You have to set the equations equal to one another, Paula had already spent $32.40, adding onto with the pounds of beef as 2.00p Mario has spent $36.40 and is about to spend $1.25 per pound of beef, so 1.25p \[\large 2.0 p +32.40 = 36.40+1.25p \]
