They do respond, but you can't delete the account.

Ask a moderator to suspended the account, or ban it.

Or just change the password to gibberish and log out.

You can go to your profile, and im not sure if you hit your account or settings but there is a part where you first disable your account and then you can hit delete. Or maybe just delete, but you have to make sure you are out of all servers you own for either disabling or deleting.
