What do you think of children being taken away from parents if their parents don't conform to their child's new gender?

Tbone:

Idc. If my child wants to identify as anything other than what they biologically are, I will disown my child before anything. If you were born a male yore a boy if you're born a female sure a girl. I'm not going to accept you for who you are, when you couldn't accept yourself for who you were.negl

Tbone:

Ignore the "negl" I was contemplating abusing the child until they learn their lesson smh

JacobPG:

If my child was wanting to go by another gender of what they were born, I would accept it and let them be who they want to be. It is not my decision to decide what my child say nor does with their body/with their words. I will respect them no matter who/what they are. So I would not kick my child/children out just for wanting to change from boy to girl, girl to boy, etc. That will not change the way I love my kid/kids. I will love them no matter what happens in life.

Shadow:

I think a lot of people have the misconception that this is "settled science." A child does not have the legal responsibility and authority to get a tattoo, chose its own school, live on its own, drink, drive, etc. Why should you give them the right to permanently alter their body for the rest of their lives? That is what you are effectively doing when you tell a girl or a boy that they can decide what's best for themselves. The whole point of a parent is that they're responsible for the child to make better decisions for them as they grow up. Let's take a girl for example. If you were to allow them to decide that they are a boy, they might begin dressing differently of course, but also taking testosterone treatments and perhaps even a double masectomy (removing the breasts). If she ever decides that she's wrong, and decides that she's actually a girl, the damage is already done. You cannot reverse the effects of testosterone and how it would impact the child's development. You cannot give her back her natural body, it's gone. Children cannot make these kinds of decisions for themselves. The state has no place interfering and taking children away from their parents who doesn't conform to what is a relatively new phenomenon (the science isn't settled). If you're curious, you should look into the detransitioners and the effects that certain gender-affirming cares have on transgender people. It is not all a pretty story.
