ELA 12th grade: (02.04 LC)Which sentence is written in a formal writing style? When studying for a test, students should review difficult concepts more than once. If I've learned anything, it's that you can't ace a test without studying, you know. For my last massive test in applied physics, I must've studied at least twelve hours. Don't forget to read through your notes, even if you do have lousy handwriting.

Spectrum:

So these are the sentences to choose from? - When studying for a test, students should review difficult concepts more than once. - If I've learned anything, it's that you can't ace a test without studying, you know. - For my last massive test in applied physics, I must've studied at least twelve hours. - Don't forget to read through your notes, even if you do have lousy handwriting.

Correct?

FunJaguar17:

yes

Spectrum:

Okay so let's observe the grammar.

FunJaguar17:

ok

Spectrum:

This one is actually pretty difficult.

Spectrum:

Is this like a multiple choice where you can only choose one?

FunJaguar17:

yeah

FunJaguar17:

what will i be looking for in this?

Spectrum:

Well I figured it out and I want to walk you through it.

FunJaguar17:

thx

Spectrum:

Sentence D

Spectrum:

"Don't forget to read through your notes, even if you do have lousy handwriting."

FunJaguar17:

yeah?

Spectrum:

@spectrum wrote:
"Don't forget to read through your notes, even if you do have lousy handwriting."
The wording here is off, there are extra unnecessary words that just contribute to the length, and it sounds informal. It should be "Don't forget to read your notes, even if you have bad handwriting."

xXChudLord420Xx:

First one, it doesn't insult the reader or anyone else in any way.

xXChudLord420Xx:

It also doesn't speak about anything personal

Spectrum:

Sentence B,

Spectrum:

The ", you know." is more slang than formal.

FunJaguar17:

i thought it was going to be explained?

Spectrum:

It is explaining that the sentences are wrong, and why they are

FunJaguar17:

it can not be b because it is asking for formal

Spectrum:

Sentence C, just because.

Spectrum:

It uses must've instead of must have.

FunJaguar17:

true

Spectrum:

So that leaves you with sentence A.

Spectrum:

Hope this helps feel free to use @spectrum any time you need help. (: Can you give me a medal for my hard work? Lol

FunJaguar17:

thx guys

Which state produced the most citrus fruit in 2010: Florida, California, or Texas? Which advanced search would likely produce the best research material? 2010 + agricultural production by state orange + grapefruit + 2010 + production Florida + California + Texas + citrus fruit citrus production + variety + state + 2010

Spectrum:

These are our options? - 2010 + agricultural production by state - orange + grapefruit + 2010 + production - Florida + California + Texas + citrus fruit - citrus production + variety + state + 2010

FunJaguar17:

yes

Spectrum:

Alright first, let's examine the question. Which state produced the most citrus fruit in 2010: Florida, California, or Texas? Which advanced search would likely produce the best research material?

FunJaguar17:

i thought a

FunJaguar17:

or c

Spectrum:

It wants to know which state produced the most citrus fruit IN 2010, as well as which search would give the best results.

Spectrum:

We need the total citrus fruit, and since b only mentions 2 citrus fruit, we can eliminate that one.

FunJaguar17:

right

Spectrum:

C, does not give us the results from 2010.

FunJaguar17:

oh, true

FunJaguar17:

d says varity, but a says by state

Spectrum:

A talks about all production, not just citrus fruits, so we can eliminate.

Spectrum:

Correct, so your answer is A. (:

Spectrum:

Are these test questions?

Spectrum:

or quiz questions?

FunJaguar17:

regular assigmet

Spectrum:

Okay.

Spectrum:

Any more questions I can help you with? (:

FunJaguar17:

not sure, we will see, thx

Spectrum:

Okay (:

(02.05 MC)Which sentence should be revised to correct a grammatical error? The county plans to take part in the annual International Coastal Cleanup this coming Saturday. Volunteers should bring their own hats, gloves, sunscreen, and bottled drinking water. The county will provide bins for recycling plastic, aluminum cans, and glass bottles. It is expected that nearly 8,000 pounds of trash were collected from the 13 beach cleanup locations.

Spectrum:

Sentence A is very incorrect. They could have just said "this Saturday".

FunJaguar17:

oh, i thought d lol

Spectrum:

Sentence B is incorrect because like, it doesn't make sense! Hats, gloves, SUNSCREEN

FunJaguar17:

it can only be one choice though

Spectrum:

Sentence C, it could have just said paper, plastic, and glass. But instead they mentioned one specific thing.

Spectrum:

So D is your answer (:

FunJaguar17:

it asks which can be revised, you said a three others were wrong sentences

FunJaguar17:

*all*

Spectrum:

Revised? OHHHH

FunJaguar17:

lol

xcoledd1:

lmao

Spectrum:

Sentence D

Spectrum:

"It is expected"

Spectrum:

They expected that 8,000 pounds of trash were collected? That isn't a for sure.

Spectrum:

So I THINK it is D, but am unsure, sorry.

Spectrum:

@spectrum wrote:
So I THINK it is D, but I am unsure, sorry.

xcoledd1:

Spectrum:

FunJaguar17:

why a. :)

xcoledd1:

FunJaguar17:

Spectrum:

The web site for the city of Williamsburg An encyclopedia article on the American Revolution A program titled "Daily Life of Colonial Williamsburg" A timeline of human settlement in Virginia, dating back to 1600

Spectrum:

B is specifically on the American Revolution, not specific enough.

Spectrum:

A is for the city, not specific as to what you are looking for.

FunJaguar17:

true

Spectrum:

I am not sure about D, since C literally has the words in it.

FunJaguar17:

Demonwolf:

@coyote wrote:

B I'm guessing

xXChudLord420Xx:

What did you pick previously

FunJaguar17:

a

xXChudLord420Xx:

B Would be better because it's specifying citrus fruits, and it's probably easier to measure the difference yourself then searching for the difference specifically... If that makes sense.

FunJaguar17:

it does :)

Coyote:

Well a 90 is good! (:
