I think your answer is 5. It's been a while since i've done this, but since the other side across from 17 is congruent. you subtract 17 from 22, which would give you 5. Because 17 + 5 = 22, which is what you need i am sure of.
My take on this question is that it's a matter of proportionality. \(16\) takes as much of the total segment \(16 + 17\) as \(x\) takes up of the segment \(22\). \[ \frac{16}{16+17} = \frac{x}{22} \]
