As long as people have been different, there have been those who will use those differences as a foothold for their insecurities and anxieties. Racism (and hatred) is ultimately that, because it is based in ignorance.

Often you find racism in those who did not grow up around a particular race or their only interaction with that race was through stories or certain ideas. They don't actually know anything about that race or how to appropriately navigate understanding and getting to know someone who is different.

So what is easier? To attempt to understand, or to exploit that difference.
