This is an interesting topic.

My unpopular opinion is with the society's expectations of your status, especially with others saying you need a significant other to complete your life. I strongly believe that a person can live their life to the fullest even when being alone. They just live in lesser responsibilities and heartaches compared to the people who have people depending on them.

I do have a relative who lives this way, although they still have us a family, they are living alone. I would not say that they are sad and lonely, like how media portrays this lifestyle, but you can see that they have achieved peace of mind. This is also my end goal.
