What is the science behind not being able to draw from pure imagination. (I know with enough practice, you can draw from pure imagination, but most of us can't so I'm curious.)

What I really like to do, is pick out certain things I really like from drawings and use it in my own work, like if I like a certain hand position or the way the hips are posed I like to combine them, some things Im not great with in memory/imagination

This is such an interesting question! I think there are so many factors about it. One thing is about perception, another thing is your imagination might be in motion so putting it on a flat paper is a bit hard so you'll need lots of practice to get it right especially with the angles, lighting and other perspectives to the object that you are imagining,
