-Captured by the Mexican Mafia- Chap 2: The Unseen world
Emma sat on the mattress, her mind reeling from the events of the past few hours. Alejandro had left her alone, but his words echoed in her mind. The Mexican mafia. She had to find a way out of this, but she was terrified and unsure where to begin. The small window in her room provided a glimpse of the outside world. She could see the faint outlines of buildings and the distant mountains. It was still light out, but the sky was turning a deep orange as the sun began to set. She wondered if her parents knew she was missing, if they were worried about her. A few hours later, the door creaked open again, and a young woman entered, carrying a tray of food. She looked to be around Emma's age, with dark hair tied back in a braid and a kind expression on her face. "Hola," the girl greeted her. "I'm Maria. I brought you some dinner." Emma hesitated before speaking. "Thank you," she said, her voice trembling. "Why are you helping them? Why are you helping me?" Maria set the tray down on the mattress and sighed. "I don't have a choice," she replied softly. "None of us do. But I'm here to help you, to make sure you're okay." Emma nodded and picked at the food on the tray. It was simple, just some rice and beans, but it was better than nothing. "Do you know why they took me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Maria shook her head. "I don't know all the details. But I think they took you as leverage. Maybe to get something from your family or someone else." Emma's heart sank further. She had no idea what her family could offer the mafia. They weren't wealthy or connected to anyone powerful. She felt a pang of guilt, wondering if her family was suffering because of her. Maria stayed with her for a while, offering small comforts and conversation. She told Emma about her own life, how she had been forced to work for the mafia to protect her family. It was a tragic story, and Emma felt a strange sense of camaraderie with the girl. As the days turned into weeks, Emma's fear began to give way to determination. She learned more about the compound where she was being held, about the people who worked for the mafia, and about Alejandro. He was a complex figure, a man who commanded both fear and respect. Despite his initial cold demeanor, there were moments when he seemed almost human, almost kind. Emma spent her days carefully observing her surroundings, trying to find any weakness in the security, any opportunity for escape. She became friends with Maria, who helped her in subtle ways, providing information and support. One evening, as Emma was pacing her small room, Alejandro entered. His presence filled the space, and Emma felt a mix of fear and curiosity. "We need to talk," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. Emma nodded, sitting down on the mattress. "What do you want from me?" she asked, her voice steady. Alejandro sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. "This isn't about what I want, niΓ±a. This is about survival. Your family has connections, people who can help us. We need them to cooperate." Emma's mind raced. She had no idea what he was talking about. "My family... they don't have connections. We're just ordinary people." Alejandro shook his head. "No one is just ordinary, Emma. Everyone has something of value. We just need to find it." Emma looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of weakness, any hint of what she could use to her advantage. But Alejandro was a master at hiding his emotions. He studied her for a moment longer before turning to leave. "You have a choice," he said, his back to her. "You can fight us and suffer, or you can cooperate and survive. Think about it." As the door closed behind him, Emma felt a surge of anger and determination. She wasn't going to let them break her. She would find a way out of this, for herself and for Maria. And she would make sure her family stayed safe, no matter what.
