How do I do layered hair colors? Like if I want to do black on top my hair but have red under?

probably due the red first, then use foil to separate them and due the black outer layer

You can separate your hair from the part you want to do black and the part where u want to do red and then dye the parts and don't let the dye touch the wrong part, and then when you wash it just wash it like you normally do
