Subshilava:

Which of the following is the real root and which is the non real root X=2+-i X=4

Luigi0210:

A real root can also be described as a real number, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4,... Imaginary roots contain imaginary numbers, which include \(\large \color{gold}{i} \), so something like 2i, 6i, 4i-2, 5i+2, etc..

Luigi0210:

and \(\large \color{gold}{i} \) can be defined as \(\large \color{gold}{i}=\sqrt{-1} \)

Could you tell me what irrational vs rational roots are

Luigi0210:

Rational numbers/roots include a large range of numbers. They could be whole numbers (1,2,3,... etc), fractions (1/2, 1/4,..) repeating fractions (1/3, 2/3,...) and even decimals/repeating decimals (0.1, 0.2, 0.3333,... etc) An irrational number/root is a number that CANNOT be turned into a simple fraction or into a fraction in general.
