Some people do it to be fake in general (which is kind of a.. dumb way to do things lol)

Some people pretend to be someone they're not in order to fit in because to society they're weird or "not normal" in a sense, and there's also homophobia, transphobia, things along those lines. On the note of transphobia and homophobia some people might also pretend to be someone they're not in order to keep themselves safe in hostile environments until they can find away to escape said environment and find someone or something that can help the person. That's just my view on this kinda thing though.
