I hate how I remember your birthday,
An unwelcome guest that won't go away.
I hate how your favorite car stays in my mind,
Its sleek lines and speed, impossible to unwind.

I hate how your voice haunts me at night,
A lingering whisper that dims the light.
I hate how I remember you in every scene,
Like a shadow cast where you've never been.

I hate how your name is etched in my thoughts,
A constant reminder of battles fought.
I hate that you never texted to see,
If I was okay, or if I was free.

I hate the way I can't seem to hate,
Not even a little, not even a trace.
For in these things I find instead,
A love that's grown, though it's unsaid.
