If I were to follow my DNA

If I were to follow my DNA I would be addicted to drugs,
If I were to follow my DNA my life would be scoffs and shrugs,
If I were to follow my DNA I would not be writing this,
If I were to follow my DNA I would probably be throwing fists,
If I were to follow my DNA I would be fxcked.
Excuse my language, but my DNA really sucked,
This isn't against anyone so I apologise if the shoe fits,
But Im only here because I fought my DNA and didnt call it quits,
Im only the person I am today because I dodged the path of addiction,
So I sit here doing English and maths, to avoid conviction,
If you had of asked me 3 years ago, this path would not be my prediction,
I’m meant to be a deadbeat smoking crack, addict,
If someone were to look at my life laid out, they’d be conflicted,
To be fair I would be too, that is, if I never lived it,
But I chose to take time and change my DNA,
Sitting in my classes writing an essay,
But sometimes people tell me i'm nothing,
So I think to myself, should I just follow my DNA?
