Should teenagers have access to birth control and sexual health services?

Thayes1287:

Yes, teenagers should have access to birth control and sexual health services. Providing these resources can help them make informed decisions about their bodies and relationships. Access to birth control can reduce the rates of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also empowers teens to take control of their reproductive health. Moreover, sexual health services offer vital education and support, helping teens understand their options and the importance of safe practices. Open access can foster a healthier dialogue around sexual health, reducing stigma and promoting responsible behaviors. Overall, access to these services is crucial for the well-being and health of teenagers.

curriful:

I say they should have access to them. There will be times when teenagers have the s word and they end up pregnant. They shouldn't be forced to have the baby because of their age. Also, using birth control is best for women but doesn't always work due to genes. It's best to get something like a vasectomy or getting your tubes tied so you don't get pregnant. But again, that probably won't be available for a minor. Using birth control and having sexual health services should be the best thing for a teenager.

Birth control itself, in the form of preventing possible pregnancies, is on the same level that condoms would be on, so yes I would agree to that degree. Now, depending on what "sexual health services" you're meaning, I could agree and/or disagree. My ideal is that a person who makes a decision to have sexual intercourse without having any sort of protection like birth control pills or condoms, shouldn't be allowed services in particular to ending a possible life form (eggs, considered as possible life forms). I get the point where someone could have been a victim, then and only then would I understand the need or usage of something like an abortion. @xxloverzxx if you could list what you mean by "sexual health services" I can go into more specific detail to what you're regarding.

HeroOfLight:

yes they should because of Education and safety matter.

Example of services: - Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. - HIV PrEP (medication to prevent HIV) provided the same day as your visit. - Reproductive health counseling. - Preconception health and pregnancy testing. - Long lasting birth control provided the same day as your visit. - Emergency contraception. - Smoking cessation.

Extrinix:

- Testing and treatment, yes - HIV Prep, yes - Repro health counseling, yes - Preco health and preg testing, yes - LLBCs, yes and no, depends on the situation - EM Contraception, yes - Smoking cessation, yes

Teenagers shouldn't only have access to this stuff for school purposes otherwise no because there underage and it is highly illegal in many states. I'm aware some states are different but why would teenagers need birth control if there not going around and doing stuff they shouldn't be?

Well, as much as I agree with you, sometimes teenage girls are forced into.. unfortunate circumstances (to keep it PG and site friendly, I'm wording it this way). In some cases (or most cases, to be accurate), teenage girls cannot support a child. In some also unfortunate cases, teenage girls that are as young as 13-14 are forced (once again, due to things that I will not directly name) and may or may not PHYSICALLY be able to give birth to a baby (which is actually both a health concern and can be both damaging and traumatizing to the teenager). In short I understand your point when you talk about teenagers doing things they shouldn't at their age (which I do agree with as long as those things were consensual from both parties), but there are also certain circumstances to keep in mind.

Considering that some forms of birth control are taken by mouth (pills), it is possible.

I obviously do not recommend it, but it is in fact possible

I'm speaking in general because if there under the age of consent they shouldn't be doing it to begin with if you ask me. And on the other side, teenagers should learn about this stuff in health class at school. Besides school teenagers shouldn't be doing this because no offense but half this generation doesn't think twice before making some rational decision that can impact their life. (If you were offended by the last part my apologies.)

None taken, I'm a college student. I will say that teenage girls can't predict when pr where they would get assaulted and it's not something that they think about doing when they go to places. I do understand what you're saying

this is very true and I agree. teenagers are gonna do things whether adults want them too or not. the more we get told no the more we will. personally I believe that abortions should have stipulations such as if it is you coming in every other week wanting and abprtion cuz you slipped up then you should not be aloud to. if you were exposed to sexual assault or incest or something traumatic or you physically will die from having oine than I suggest you should be able to because its not fair to take that right away from people who deserve it even teens.

Extrinix:

I don’t think some of y’all are getting right at the point the OP is trying to suggest. They’re talking about possible pregnancy preventions and possible tests that are sexual health services. The point wasn’t to discern something being legal or illegal. If you consider denying pregnancy prevention items to a younger and underaged individual, you are equivalently saying in the off case the person inherits a physically forced sexual interaction of some sort, it is their problem to handle as a person, even though they aren’t going to be allowed specific services for such manners. I’ll quote my responses below here.
