addison123456:

is it legal for a school to press charges on a student for a fight at their school and what are the maximum amount of months of probation?^

ShadowKid3:

the charge would be battery "the act of touching someone without their consent to cause physical harm" and can land someone in jail for around 6 months and a 2,000 dollar fine in California's, sentence varies depending on severity of injury. I believe the same applies if both parties are minors

fwval:

yeah you can get a probation and it js depends on the judge it can be for a couple months to a year

then the one who was hit could be charged with assault "the act of intimidating someone to give them a reasonable cause to have fear of harm". another thing to note is if the "attacker" was being bullied actively before they hit because if there was a reasonable suspicion of physical harm then the punch could be counted in self defense "the act of using reasonable force to prevent physical injury". Assault generally in the state of California lands someone in jail for up to 6 months and/or a thousand dollar fine, I believe the same applies if both parties are minors.
