I opened the door, let you step inside,
Trusted your hands, let them hold mine.
Spoke in a language of soft, quiet things,
Dreamed in the echoes your laughter would bring.

But love was a whisper you never could keep,
A fleeting illusion, a promise too cheap.
You left like a shadow dissolving at dawn,
No reason, no warning, just suddenly gone.

I will not ask why, will not beg you to stay,
Won’t trace the footsteps that faded away.
I’ll swallow the sorrow, bite down on the pain,
And never let you hear me say your name.

You are the dust that the cold wind will take,
A ghost in the past that I will not wake.
And though I am shattered, though I am torn,
You’ll never know that my heart still mourns.
