I think that the most used literary device is metaphor. Although I don't think that it's the most effective of the literary devices. The most effective device, in my opinion, is irony. I think this because it can be used for humorous effect as well as serious effects.

Honestly, I see similes a lot and I'd say those are pretty effective. Foreshadowing could also work here.

I see alot of personification, but I agree with the foreshadowing.

honestly its hard to say, it also depends on what your reading because different kinds of authors employ different literary devices.

In my opinion, metaphors/analogies are the most powerful ones used often in speeches, debates, articles, etc.
