Jaynater:

To find the surface area of our cube, we just find the surface area of one side and multiply it by the number of sides that exist. Since we know that our edge length of all edges in the cube equals three, we can multiply three by three, or one edge by another, and find our surface area for a square on one of the faces of the cube. Then, since all edges have the same length, we simply multiply the surface area of the square (2D) by all faces of the cube (3D). So, yes, 54 is the correct answer. This is why just in case elaboration was needed.
