poem : I’m sorry if I fade

I never meant to disappoint,
but I did over and over.
I kept trying to become
someone worth keeping,
but I only learned how to disappear.

The liquor burns softer now,
the smoke feels like silence.
I whisper apologies into the dark
hoping they reach whoever I’ve hurt.

Please know I loved you,
even when I couldn’t love myself right.
I’m just tired of pretending
I’m not breaking.

If I fade,
remember it wasn’t your fault
I just ran out of ways
to stay.
