Originally, Halloween was celebrated to mark the beginning of Fall and Winter from the Celtic Festival of Samhain. Then before All Saints' Day, the Christian Chruch adopted the name All Hallows' Eve on Nov 1. As it became more known, people added new additions and that's eventually why we widely popular to go trick or treating, wear costumes, and use pumpkin themed decor.

Depends also on quantity. Also, sometimes ppl offer hot dogs on Halloween (with options for ketchup, mustard, etc.) popcorn, and those also get added into the mix so yeah
