How to stay safe online

I have seen that some of you are having trouble staying safe, so here’s a list of things not to post. Anything and everything in the world can lead to your security being threatened.



1: Other services

Services that post your email, names or location(s)
Social media platforms
Cloud storage services
Collaboration tools
Online forums and community boards
E-commerce sites
Video sharing platforms
Messaging apps
Online dating sites
Job portals
Educational platforms
Customer support portals
Online surveys and feedback tools
Web hosting services

2: Names

Names of your parents, or siblings
Names of colleagues or coworkers
Names of teachers or professors
Names of healthcare providers or doctors
Names of clients or customers
Names of friends
Participants in surveys or studies
Minors or children
Business partners or vendors

3: Locations

Work addresses or business locations
School or university addresses
Hospitals or clinics
Public or private event venues
Vacation or travel destinations
Neighborhoods or residential areas
Meeting spots or clubs

4: Landmarks

Weather or temperature
Your house or building
Local parks or playgrounds near your residence
Schools or educational institutions you attend or work at
Shopping centers or malls you frequent

Street signs or house numbers that are easily identifiable

Everything on this list can hint at where you live, from the depth of snow to your house number.

One more thing Twaylor forgot to mention is that if you send a photo, you need to check for these things and blur them out/retake the photo:

- Reflections of faces
- License plate numbers
- Addresses

One can mention generic things of a region. Sure, your time zone may be one thing, but that doesn't narrow down the specific region of where one lives within that time zone.

One of my biggest tips is to avoid using your real name on social media apps. Personally, I avoid signing up/using them at all. (Ex. Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc)

As with anything, every site/app you use is part of the internet. Always be careful of what data you're sharing and who you're sharing it with. Stay safe, everyone!
