Sailor:

Regarding bypassing in chats/question comments: Hello everyone! Lately, the mod team has noticed an increasing amount of bypassing in both the question section and in the chats. Bypassing on QuestionCove is present when a user utilizes different types of text, abbreviations, and more to bypass the filter. While this is a site for people ages 13 and older, the filter on the site is present because we would like to keep parents (and what they possibly would/would not want their children to see on a homework site) in mind. Regardless of popular belief among users, not all parents want their children to be exposed to certain content/words. While the mod team cannot stop 100% of rule breaking in terms of bypassing (or any rule being broken in general), it is our job to enforce these rules in order for every user to have a positive experience.

Sailor:

Here are some examples of what bypassing could include: - Using symbols, emojis, punctuation marks, numbers, or spaces to say a word without the filter blocking it - Purposely leaving out letters in a word - Abbreviating the word into a shorter phrase to bypass the filter. This includes phrases like "ts", "rs", and more. As a firm reminder, bypassing is prohibited on the QuestionCove site. If a word is filtered, it is filtered for a reason. In the case that there is a curse word (or a slur) that is not filtered and someone on the staff team asks you to not use the word, we would advise you to listen to them and to stop any and all usage of the word immediately.

Sailor:

As such, any and all cases of bypassing will be handled accordingly. In the case of this rule being broken in a more severe manner, a different approach will be necessary regardless of whether or not this is someone's first offense. 1st offense: Warning (whether it be verbal or official) 2nd offense: warning / brief chat suspension 3rd offense: Chat suspension / brief suspension 4th offense: longer suspension (or whatever the moderation team decides)

Sailor:

In the case that you are warned for this kind of behavior, please do not make a big deal about it in the chats. I understand that being warned for something like this can be frustrating, but it is best to take the rules into consideration instead of being spiteful and/or downright hateful in the chats. Finally, when it comes to abbreviations like "ts" or "rs", do not try to alter the meaning when you know how you intended to use it. There have been many instances where users have been warned and they tried to say that "rs" meant "real stuff." Even in the case of someone actually meaning that, the moderation team is fully aware of how users now (and users in the past) have used these phrases. Do not waste your time trying to justify it, a moderator's decision is final. As always, if there is any confusion and/or questions about how this rule works (or about any of the other rules of QuestionCove), don't hesitate to ask one of the moderators or ambassadors if you see them online! And if you suspect that a moderator/ambassador is abusing their power, you can always contact a moderator or email abuse@questioncove.com to contact the staff team about it. You can also check out the rules here: https://questioncove.com/rules In the case that someone is bypassing, do not engage or encourage it. Just report it.
