how did the dust bowl affect those who had to survive during that time?

a lot of people couldn't grow crops endured dust pneumonia and many had to migrate to California I think and while they were there they had faced lots of unfair treatment and were often discriminated, had low wages and lives in poor environments in shantytowns.
