If you look at James's answer, he has all those exact terms with the correct signs; they’re just rearranged. Carl is incorrect because his answer is missing most of the expression

Carl did not factor both of his variables in the first set of parenthesis correctly into the second pair. However, James correctly distributed and combined like terms correctly.
