a veterinarian's clinic has a patient load of 150 cats and dogs. the ratio of cats to dogs is 4 to 8. how many patients are cats and how are dogs. explain

That means that out of every 12 animals, there are 4 cats and 8 dogs, so the fraction of cats in total animals is 4 / 12, and the fraction of dogs in total animals is 8 / 12.
So, if you multiply 150 by each of those, you can find the number of acts and the number of dogs. If you simplify the fractions so that they have the lowest denominator, you will see that that's an easy calculation :)
