So if you draw out the trajectory and you see that the boat was traveling north east, you can draw a right triangle with one angle at 40 degrees. You can then use that to calculate the length of the north and east lines using the 90 mile distance (which would be the hypotenuse) using SOHCAHTOA. Does that help?
