just a definition: a trapezoid is made by constructing intersecting lines from vertices of the lower edge of the rectangle to some arbitrary point on the upper edge...not a formal definition just a way to help visualize it.

hmm...are you sure that the area is 70? a rectangle with length 4 and 14 would not have an area of 70 sq in

ok so the trapezoid is superimposed inside the rectangle if one length is 14 inches, then assume the other side is equal to 5 inches to make the area 70 sq in

then base1= 14
base 2=4, all you have to do is find the height.
you can do this by finding the area of the triangles not included in the trapezoid that are still inside the rectangle...i dont know if that makes sense...its easier to see if you can see the picture
