Mathematics 78 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone help me find the critical points of 2x^3-11x^2-8x+2 ? ty

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

First of all, take the derivative of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhm 6x^2 - 22x - 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i know the points are -1/3 and 4, but my hw asks for it to be in point form. i tried plugging in these values to the original equation, but the answers are marked as wrong on my online hw

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

So (-1/3, 91/27) is wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i put (-1/3, 91/27) and (4,-78) and it said both were wrong

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Sorry, I *think* critical point should just be the X value.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Have you tried just putting in -1/3 and 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(The answers are to be points. Use parentheses in your answer(s). If there are no critical points, enter none .) **** copied from my homework

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Strange. I mean, those are right heh. No question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm ok, im going to email my professor. thank you for your help!

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):
