Apple has development kits and sdks for both iphone and ipads. The primary programming language you'll have to learn is objective C.

Well, the first thing is that you *have* to use Mac OS X, so you'll need a Mac.

Part 2 is that you'll need XCode, which is Apple's Integrated Development Environment.

Finally, as with any development, Google is your friend -- any time you have something you're uncertain about and whose answer you can't find in the documentation, google it. Someone else has probably had that issue and posted on how to fix it.

Also, when you are ready to publish your application, you'll need to pay for access to the Apple developer zone ($100 a year, I believe), and you'll need to submit your application for Apple's approval into the app store.

shadowfiend is right but, if you want to test your application on actual iPhone or iPad even then you will need access to developer zone.
