what is the reason behind spain and columbus journey to the new world

OpenStudy (tad1):

They hoped to find a shorter, better route to India. Finding the New World was an accident

OpenStudy (matthewrlee):

Columbus was in a band and they broke up. He felt like he needed to leave town for a while. His music was huge in Spain. The Spaniards loved him. The Queen held a benefit concert to raise money for his voyage. It was a big deal at the time. The whole new world thing was a marketing deal to jump start his career. The discovery of gold kind of blew things out of the water. He was the first one with a solid gold album but it was lost some where of the coast of Cuba.

OpenStudy (matthewrlee):

I meant to say "off the coast of Cuba"

Expansion was one of their main goals. Spain was threatened by England who was the dominant country at the time. They figured that if they could control more of the trade routes, they would have the upper hand. Religion was also a main factor. The Spanish were catholics while the English were Christians. Again, the Spanish wanted to have more territory and more people who were under Spanish ruling. Hope it helps! God bless

the main reason was the fall of constantinople by the truks which closed the land route for trade with the eastern countries such as india, china ect.that why columbus tried to find new sea route to mainly india, but instead of going east he went west and he reached america and found the red people living there and thought it was india and called them red indians....

Spain was motivated by a desire to emulate Portugal's establishment of the Spice Trade as a means to fund itself. Columbus had previously traveled to Portugal's African colonies and hit on the idea of crossing the Atlantic to reach India. Columbus managed to sell this idea to Ferdinand and Isabella who funded his expedition. Columbus had no idea that the Americas were in the way, and he believed upon arriving in the Caribbean that he had indeed reached India. He then set about murdering the local inhabitants. Fail and Fail.
