What is a useful application for finding an x intercept? One example, to find the square root of 16, that's the example in lecture. What else? In other words, why am I bothering? (For use in computer programs.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you a comp sci student?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, trying to teach myself through OWC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

been learning about Newtons method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but not sure when I might actually put it in use, when I could use this method to good effect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I'll tell you this much. Writing a program is all about understand the logic, and that's what math is too. If you study mathematics, you train yourself to think logically which will help you in any other field of study, but especially computer science. As for specifically how you will use an x-intercept, well, you may or may not, but it's good to at least to just understand the idea of what an x-intercept is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, I'm building my maths knowledge, it is valuable. i was just wondering about this particular thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm only in the beginning stages of learning how to code myself, but my mathematical background has really come in handy so far, and I'm only learning Java.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm planning to study up turning worded problems into algebra next, I think, as this will be particularly useful. Well, I'm off to bed. Good luck with the com sci.

go ahead joz
