What are Haploid And Diploid Cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haploid is half the chromosome number. human have 46 diploid chromosomes or 23 haploid. Remember you inherit 2 sets of 23 from both parents to form 46 chromosomes. Only the sex cells have haploid numbers due to meosis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In diploid cells, chromosomes are in pairs. In haploid cells only one chromosome from the pair will be present.(that is the total no will be half of the no of chromosomes in diploid cells) The chromosome number is characteristic of the particular species. for example, human diploid cells have 46 chromosomes which means there are 23 pairs of chromosomes. While in human haploid cell (gametes) only one chromosome from each pair is present which means in human haploid cells 23 chromosomes will be present. in short 2n = diploid n = haploid Simple :-)
