The quadratic polynomial f(x)=x^2+bx+c has roots at -3 and 1. What are the values of b and c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-b is the sum of the roots, c is the product of the roots. Sum of the roots is -3 + 1 = -2, so: -b = -2 b = 2 Product of the roots is -3*1 = -3 so: c = -3 Therefore the answer is: \[x^2+2x-3\]
