graph and find intercepts y=|x+1|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know what the graph looks like but im not sure about the points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1314395453671:dw| |x| is like this, so how do you think it will be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i know what the back of my book says but im not sure how to get there. it says the x intercept is (-1,0) and i have not a clue as to how to get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Again, you're translating the origin along the x axis one unit to the right (+1). So the graph will move one unit to the left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in fact, you have the same function : |x+1|, if you're not sure, try some values : how do you get zero with |x+1| ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y = 0 when x = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks
