First, how thin?   If you put a blade through your hand, you will disrupt blood vessels, muscles and tendons.   The symptoms will be pain, loss of use of fingers, and bleeding.  

  Blood loss from a hand wound is not usually fatal, but it can lead to infection, which without proper treatment can cause sepsis and death.   It's more likely you would wish you were dead, than actually dying from it.
