Anyone good with rate, time and distance word problems? I only got two problems left and if someone would just help me set them up I'm sure I can finsh them.. pls pls pls 1.) Two cyclists, 42 miles apart, start riding toward each other at the same time. One cycles 2 times as fast as the other. If they meet 2 hours later, what is the speed (in mi/h) of the faster cyclist? 2.)Mutt and Jeff need to paint a fence. Mutt can do the job alone 5 hours faster than Jeff. If together they work for 24 hours and finish only of the job, how long would Jeff need to do the job alone?
first one we can say that their combined speed is 3x and then solve \[42=6x\] for x
x=7
i.e. distance = rate times time, distance = 42, rate is 3x and time is 2 hours. so one has rate 7 and the other has rate 21
are you missing part of the second one?
second one the copy and paste didn't work because of the image
yeah in 24 hours they only finish 7/8 of the job
