when dealing with these from kinds of problems you have to try and factor as much as possible. For instance then numerator factors to: (4x-17)(5x-2) and the denominator factors to: (x+2)(4x-17) which means you actually have: (4x-17)(5x-2) ------------- (x+2)(4x-17) now, the (4x-17) divides out and you are left with your answer of : (5x-2) ----- (x+2)
