a satelite in a circular orbit 1250 km above earth makes one complete revolution every 110 minutes. what is its linear speed? Assume the earth is a sphere of radius 6400 km formula --> Linear speed= arc length/time= s/t Please show work.... :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do we assume the earth to have a radius of 4000 or some other number?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just read it in there at the end :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

add earths radius and the satellites elevation to get a total radius in order to calculate a distance

OpenStudy (amistre64):

once you know the distance, speed = distance/units of time

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the distance around any circle is the circunference; or 2pi * radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so then you would get 48066.37 as S right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i got know idea, id have to actually calculator it :)
