relation between neurotransmitter GABA and dopamine. need detailed answer

heh, The relation between the GABAergric system and Dopamine System is complex, but let me hit some key points. drugs like benzodiazepines(psychoactive drugs) will act on this two systems. let me not drag this out too far Gabaergic 1. GABAA receptor complex plays a major role in the pharmacology, neurochemistry and physiopathology of stress and anxiety. Dopaminergic 2. when this drug activates, it does so in the mesocortical neurons of dopamine, GABA has a functional role in regulation of dopaminergic neurons in the rat cerebral cortex. I am trying not to make this to overly complicated, but truthfully this is still not completely understood. Okay, let me make this into a simple little diagram for you. Imagine if you were to take a sedative and a antianxiety(valium/benzodiazepines) drug together. this sedative would act on a channel (chlorine-) and bind to it, then when you took a valium you would block the chlorine channel because when these two mix it makes you more susceptible to overdose. off a scholarly research magazine they said this, "cortical GABAergic and dopaminergic transmission play a major role in the pharmacology, neurochemistry and pathology of the emotional states and fear."

well im a little confused. this is for a high school project. where we have to research about drugs abuse and dopamine levels and how here the question we have to answer: Compare the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA to natural endorphins in terms of its effect on dopamine levels and the post-synaptic neuron.

okay, dopamine production in dopaminergic cells is under the direct control of GABAergic neurons that produce GABA. i think kaplan and sadock did this study and concluded this in like 1995. So in theory when you take methyphendiate(ritalin) persay in a abusive manor this overlay of dopamine will not be absorbed because there is not enough gaba being produced, then look at the other example, if you took a mixture of a downer and a methyphendiate(ritalin) there would be even less gaba available to manage the access of the dopamine being produced. when you take maybe double the clincally relevant dosage of this particular drug you nucleaus accumbens produce an obscene amount of dopamine being projected through the stratum and not being reabsorbed for long periods of time.

let me tell you the later affects of this. plus, i am doing my research on this particular field right now. When they do start reuptaking the dopamine the neuroreceptor will be most likely damaged.

so basically to sum t up dopamine controls neurons that produce gaba, so if overdose on dtugs dopamine will not be released , because there isint enough gaba being produced.

completely opposite. GABA controls Dopamine. if you OD, on amphetamine Dopamine will be produced uncontrollably, because you cannot produce enough GABA to control the overproduction of Dopamine. But you are correct that there is not enough GABA being produced to catch and help the reuptake receptors.

okay natural endorphin time. lol the easiest natural i can think of is morphine found naturally in the body. when this is released by the body will increase dopamine production significantly. Okay here is a way for you to conceptualize it. you are walking down the road you snap your ankle and the pain is so intense your body is ready to save you from the agony of pain, so it dumps natural endorphins this acts on dopamine/serotonin/nonephinprhin and inhibit gaba. Pretty much gives you a high to not feel the pain. this can also be correlated with thrill seekers.

okay, action potential. but it is called postsynaptic potential. Drugs that affect the actions of the neurotransmitter can treat neurological and psychological disorders through different combinations of types of receptors, G-proteins, and ion channels in postsynaptic neurons. so to put it nice and short, if the abuse is sustained for too long of a period, disorders can appear, and always, i mean always remember Hebbian experience when talking about synapses and neurons. we are so detrimentally affected by the environment by what we do.

okay, here we go. i am not much on the social aspect of psych, but i can say there is some understanding that does have a correlation biologically, and these can transfer in the way we behave and are interpreted by society.. Neurotoxcity, neuron cell death, less ability for brain plasticity, we can only compensate so much for neuron death. (p.s, we do use more of the brain then that saying "15% of the brain" if that was true we would be a little fishy.) i have yet to come across of a study that does have any proof positive evidence that there is, but i have not looked at the societal affects.
