First bring all constants to one side. So, you get: |2x+5| < 5 For the above to be true: 2x must be less than zero OR 2x must be greater than -10 So, x must be less than zero OR x must be greater than -5 Remember, | | makes a negative number into positive.

Sorry, there is one mistake I made. IT must be |2x + 5| < 7 (not 5). So, 2x must be less than 2 OR 2x must be greater than -12
so what about the -1
You take it to the other side. It becomes +1 when taken to the other side. That is why it comes out to |2x + 5| < 7. Originally, I made a mistake of taking one to the other side and subtracting.
