How to Solve P(AorB) when P(A) is 230/580 and P(B) 200/580?
you need more information to do this problem
i too carry the same feeling zarkon
but i thought it may be related to set theory
All probability is related to set theory
every event is a set
I am sorry its just a very very long problem. So I was just trying to give you the basic. Its with probability. I just dont know how to solve problem regarding probability when it has OR in it.
\[P(A\text{ or }B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A\text{ and }B)\]
so you cant find P(A or B) without knowing P(A and B)
To find P (A and B) dont u just add the P(A) and P(B) together?
no
are A and B independent?
are A and B mutually exclusive?
if A & B are disjoint events in that case i feel we can @ zarkon
if A and B are m.e. or disjoint then P(A and B)=0 and thus P(A or B)=P(A)+P(B)
but that wasn't stated in the original post
A. is the students selected is a republican and B. The students selected Approves the use of nuclear power for consumer enegery.
means they are disjoint sets
that still doesn't totally help...those events might be independent ...maybe
there could be a republican student that approves the use of nuclear power...so thae are not disjoint
ok
is this problem in the section of your book on independence?
Its our teachers own notes she writes up for us. It does talk about independent and disjoint.
did you write out the entire problem?
Not but I gotta go to class right now. But thank you guys trying!
