Give the coordinates of two points on the line x = 5. Give the coordinates of two points on the line y = -2. Write the equation of the horizontal line passing through the point (-1, -8). Write the equation of the vertical line passing through the point (3, 1). Is the line with equation x = 4 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line? Is the line with equation y = -8 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line?

OpenStudy (radar):

The line x=5, is a vertical line so points could be (5,0)(5,7)

OpenStudy (radar):

the line, y=-2, is a horizontal line so a couple of points could be (0-2)(7,-2) x is I don't care, and y is always a -2.

OpenStudy (radar):

An equation for a horizontal line passing thr the point (-1,-8) would be y=-8 thats it, simple wasn't it.

OpenStudy (radar):

Writing an equation for a vertical line passing thru the point (3,1) is x=3 simple again

OpenStudy (radar):

You should have enough ideas to work the last two questions. The slope of a vertical line is "undefined" The slope of a horizontal line is always zero (0)
