OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
if the equation is of the form y=mx+b then b is the y intercept, ie 3
OpenStudy (mertsj):
A
OpenStudy (mertsj):
y intercept is 2 1/2
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
I don't really understand how to get the equation..

and the gradient is negative ( slopping down across x
OpenStudy (mertsj):
If you notice, there are two points that are marked on the graph. One is (-1,3) the other is (5,0). Use those two points to find the slope.
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Can you do that?
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Yea, so that means it's -3/6?
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Yes. Reduce that to -1/2

Now use point-slope form and plug in the slope and one of the points to find the equation.
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Can you do that?
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Based on the answer choices, you might want to use the point (-1,3)
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
I don't really understand this last part, do I put it in one of the equations on the screen or a whole seperate one?
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Here is point-slope form:

y = mx + b right?
OpenStudy (mertsj):
\[y-y _{1}=m(x-x _{1)}\]
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
oh
OpenStudy (mertsj):
replace m with -1/2 which is the slope. Replace x1 with -1 and y1 with 3 because you are using the point (-1,3)
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
so y - 3 = -1/2(x + 1)?

Exactly. Isn't that one of the choices?
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Yea! It's A! Thanks Mertsj! Wish I could give you more than one medal.. :/
OpenStudy (mertsj):
Thank you. Glad to help. Now do a couple more problems like this so you really learn it!
OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):
Thanks again :)
