I am looking for a list or chart that shows which energy levels of electrons on which atoms are responsible for which frequencies of radiation. Do you know of such a thing?
If I understand correctly, you are referring to the energy (in the form of photons) released during transitions between energy levels. If so, then perhaps this might be helpful: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/hyde.html http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/tables/hydspec.html#c1
This is a good start, thanks.
On the hydrogen page it gives the energy level of the ground state as -13.6 eV and the Bohr radius as 0.0529 nm. I am guessing these values are specific to hydrogen, and other elements will have different values?
Other elements will have different energy levels diagrams, because unlike the hydrogen atom, the atoms of other elements do not consist of one electron. Because of the interactions between the electrons themselves, the energy level diagrams of multi-electron atoms are not as straightforward as they are for hydrogen. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/atomic/grotrian.html#c1 http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/quantum/atomstructcon.html#c1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_levels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_orbital#Orbital_energy (scroll down to orbital energy)
The NIST site http://www.nist.gov/pml/data/asd_contents.cfm claims 77,000 energy levels, so I am making some progress. Tanx.
