can anyone help me with applications of elasticity i read it but i cannot understand :(
As usual, it's best if you post a specific question.
k
why does girders have I shape

To make them more rigid. With this shape, it's harder for the girder to bend in either direction.
can u relate it to elastic behaviour or sthng like that?
yes: In both directions---x and y---there is with this design a greater thickness of material than there would be if the girder were not I-shaped. As a consequence, the amount of force required to deform the girder is greater than it would be not I-shaped.
why does pillars have below shape |dw:1328280962796:dw|
james srry bt i didnt get what u meant by the first one
There are three types of column failure: This design helps minimize them.
wel i hav an equation here can u xplain with that ??
\[sagging=wl^3/4bd^3 Y\]
Returning to the I-beams for the moment: the wikipedia article gets it right: "The horizontal elements of the "I" are flanges, while the vertical element is the web. The web resists shear forces while the flanges resist most of the bending moment experienced by the beam." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-beam
I don't know this sagging equation. Just think it through in your mind, or make a model out of cardboard. Why does an I-shaped beam perform better than a beam that is just a vertical slab of metal?
CAN U XPLAIN THAT THICKNESS PART Y IS IT MORE?
do u mean that if thickness increases then bending decreases?
Yes
k i hav another interesting qn pls look at it
Post it on the left.
