how do you distinguish the difference between a homogeneous mixture and a heterogeneous mixture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

homogeneous solutions are uniform throughout like koolaid.. and heterogeneous are not uniform you can see a difference..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you take one sample from a homogeneous mixture, and take a second sample from another part of the homogeneous mixture, their composition will be basically the same. This is not true for heterogeneous mixtures.

uts a relative term...whether you are looking at macroscopic homogenity or microscopic heteroginity...? Macroscopic homogity you can check with macroscopic property..say even by naked eye...but same is not easy if you are looking for microscopic homoginity...you need much more sophisticated tool for that
