A 5000 kg truck drives at constant speed 1.5 km up a hill that has a gradient of 1:20. The resistance for the truck is 1200 N. How much work must the engine do?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

There are two types of work here. One is overcoming the resistive force. The other is gaining gravitational potential energy. Which of these two do you need help calculating?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the overcoming resistive force

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Work is equal to Force times Distance in the direction of the force. So the wok against the resistive force is \[ W = Fd \] as the direction of travel is always parallel to the resistive force. Now calculate.

how do you do the calculation?
